چکیده

Acute paralytic poliomyelitis is still prevalent inspite of large scale immunization programmes being carried out throughout the country. One of the important factors incriminated to provoke paralysis is administration of intramuscular (IM) injections especially, when the child has had exposure to poliovirus(l). IM injections are commonly prescribed in cases of fever(2). The relationship of parenteral injections with paralytic poliomyelitis has been reported by various workers from India and abroad(l4). The present study was conducted to ascertain the role of drugs given by IM injection in the development of paralytic poliomyelitis.

Inactivation of Poliomyelitis Virus in Vitro by Crystalline Vitamin C (ascorbic Acid)

The experimental evidence presented in this paper shows that multiple paralytic doses of poliomyelitis virus, when mixed with very small amounts of crystalline vitamin C (ascorbic acid), are rendered non-infectious as determined by intracerebral injection of such mixtures into rhesus monkeys.

A Further Contribution to Vitamin C Therapy in Experimental Poliomyelitis

1. Multiple paralytic doses of poliomyelitis virus (RMV strain), when brought together with small amounts of synthetic ascorbic acid in vitro, are rendered non-infectious as determined by intracerebral injection of such mixtures into rhesus monkeys. 2. Vitamin C administration to monkeys infected intranasally with the RMV strain produces results which differ in accordance with the technique emp...
